Legal
Privacy policy
Last updated: 6 September 2026
This policy explains what we do with your personal information when you ask us for a fencing quote, send us an enquiry, or simply browse this website. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate, because a policy nobody can read protects nobody.
Who we are
1st4FencingUK supplies, installs and repairs fencing across Dagenham, East London and Essex. For data protection purposes we are the "data controller", which means we are responsible for deciding how your information is used.
- Address: New Rd, Dagenham, Essex RM10 9NH
- Email: info@1st4fencing.co.uk
- Phone: 07901 136 056
If you have any question about your information, contact us using any of the above and ask for the person responsible for data protection.
What we collect, and when
We only ask for what we need to price a job and get back to you.
- When you use the instant quote tool: your name, email address, phone number and the address where the work would be done, together with the details of the fence you have specified (style, length, height, posts and any extras).
- Photos you choose to attach to a quote: pictures of your garden, or of the fence being replaced. These are entirely optional, and a quote works perfectly well without them.
- When you send a general enquiry: your name, email address, phone number and whatever you choose to put in your message.
- When you call, email or message us on WhatsApp: whatever you tell us during that conversation.
We do not ask for, and would rather you did not send us, any sensitive information such as health details or anything about your finances beyond what a quote requires.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
| What we do | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Prepare and send your quote, and answer your questions | You have asked us to price a job | Taking steps at your request before entering a contract |
| Arrange and carry out the work, including visiting the address | To do the job you have booked | Performance of our contract with you |
| Keep records of quotes given and work done | To handle questions, warranties and disputes later | Our legitimate interests in running the business properly |
| Keep invoices and accounting records | Because the law requires it | Compliance with a legal obligation |
We do not send marketing emails or texts, and we do not sell, rent or trade your details to anyone. If that ever changes we will ask you first, and you will be able to say no without it affecting your quote.
Photos you send us
Photographs of your property are more personal than a phone number, so it is worth setting out exactly what happens to them.
- Before they leave your device, your browser resizes them. Nothing larger than about 1600 pixels on its longest side is ever sent.
- They travel with your quote to us, attached to the email that tells us you have been in touch.
- They are never stored on this website, never given a public web address, and never published or used in our gallery or our advertising. If we ever wanted to show your finished fence as an example of our work, we would ask you separately first.
- They sit in our email inbox alongside your enquiry, and on the form service that delivers it, described below. That service keeps them behind a private link for up to a year unless we delete them sooner, and we delete them once your quote is finished with.
Cookies, and what this site stores on your device
This website sets no tracking cookies. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel and no social media tracker on it, which is why you have not been asked to accept a cookie banner.
The instant quote tool does remember your answers as you move between steps, using something called session storage. It stays on your own device, it is not sent to us or to anyone else, and it is cleared when you close the tab. It exists only so the tool works, which is why no consent is required for it.
Other companies involved
Running a website means a few other companies necessarily handle some data, usually just the technical information every website receives, such as your IP address:
- Our website host, which serves the pages to you and keeps standard server logs.
- Google Fonts, which supplies the typefaces the site uses. Loading them means your browser contacts Google's servers.
- jsDelivr, which supplies a small animation library used for the page effects.
- splitforms, which delivers the details you submit through the quote tool and the enquiry form to our inbox. They also keep a copy — your answers and any photos — on servers in the United States, for up to a year unless we delete it sooner, so that nothing is lost if an email goes astray. We can delete any submission at your request.
- Our email provider, which stores the message once it has arrived, as it does any other email we receive.
Some of these companies are based outside the UK. Where information reaches them, it is protected by the safeguards those companies have in place for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses, the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement, or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep it
- Quotes and enquiries that do not turn into work: up to 12 months, in case you come back to us.
- Records of work we have carried out, and the invoices for it: six years after the end of the relevant tax year, because HMRC requires business records to be kept for that long.
After that we delete them, or anonymise them so they can no longer identify you.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- show you a copy of the information we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete it, where we do not have a legal reason to keep it;
- restrict or object to how we are using it;
- provide it in a portable format so you can take it elsewhere.
Just ask, using the contact details above. We will respond within one month, and it is free.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Keeping your information safe
This site is served over an encrypted connection, and the details you send through it are transmitted encrypted. Access to enquiries is limited to the people who need it to quote or carry out your job. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the care you would expect of a small business handling your address and contact details.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information we will update this page and change the date at the top.
